Z asks the right question

We went to a party last night. A housewarming, thrown by friends who left the village nearly 15 years ago and have now returned to the area. Chatting to other friends, I remembered to ask if Rebecca had received her results yet.

Good question. Modest mum had not volunteered the information, but her face lit up. "She got them today. A First!"

My other friend's daughter, also reading Law at Cambridge, got a 2:1. Well done, Rachel and Rebecca.

Gutted for poor Rachel - would have been a result, but for Rebecca.

Lovely story though, well done you.

I love asking my parent's friends if they have any photos of their new grand-children with them. They always do, and it makes them so happy to show them.

True, but Rachel was really anxious she had flunked it and I'm sure she's thrilled with her degree.

You are a honey, how thoughtful. No point in asking me though, I never carry photos! I might have one on my camera, but that'd be it. I'm a bad and unnatural grandparent.

Oh, don't be so hard on yourself, z; you are a great grandma, and you *play* with your grandkids. That' more important than carrying photos around!

A great grandma? Gosh, not quite yet - though my sister is a great aunt of course...

but thanks, Imperatrix!

Ummm... am glad for both the girls :-)
