Mystery illness

You know I told you a few weeks ago about Val, the owner of the pet shop, who collapsed in agony and was taken to hospital with abdominal pains? It's most odd - she had all sorts of tests and nothing came to light at all. The preliminary diagnosis was either a kidney stone or pancreatitis, but it was neither of those. She was in enough pain to be given morphine for several days.

She was in hospital for a fortnight but eventually was better enough to come home. All the doctors can suggest is 'a virus', and that she should get over it. She didn't eat for a couple of weeks and had to be put on a drip, and is still not well at all. Very odd. Poor Val.

I had something similar, though not as serious sounding at this. One doctor was convinced I was a hypochondriac, and I had to argue to have the word removed from my file. IN the end the best we could figure was that I was suffering from some odd intestinal muscle spasm at the kink around the kidney on my right side. Was horribly painful when it hit.

I suffered from it for a couple months then it went away. The body is downright odd sometimes.

Mr BW spent a few days in hospital with something similar a few years back (even got to go in an ambulance in the middle of the night after the emergency doctor sevice hadn't arrived after 4 hours). The initiatl diagnosis was pancreatitis, but they never did get to the bottom of it.

I expect you're extra busy rushing around making sure she's well cared for.

Thank you both for telling me - at least it's reassuring to know that in both instances there was a complete recovery, even if the cause of the pain still remains unknown.

We've offered help, but they are still managing all right - their daughter is coming in at the weekends and the staff are rallying round. Val's husband is running both shops - he'll be exhausted by the end of this all!

Blue Witch, I was reading your post at the moment you left your comment. Another two minutes and comments would have crossed again.

I hope she feels much better soon and she also has a full recovery.
