Long ago when Z was young

Here is the photo I mentioned the other day - from left at the back (humans first) are Wink, George and John, two brothers who were staying with us for the summer, one of the sisters who were Wink's French pen friends, I think this one was Pascal.  Front row are me, Pearson, who was my mother's godson and also spent summer holidays with us, and my mother.

Dogs - Simon, the patriarch of the family, Huckleberry his son, Bess (with her mouth open), the mother, Kipper, Huck's brother, who lived next door, and Jess, Huck's sister, who belonged to our gardener and lived in the house opposite.

And here is a close-up of Huckleberry.  Lovely dog.

  1. Mrs Rine has fallen in love with Huckleberry.

It all looks very Enid Blyton to me!

  2. Lashings of ginger pop just out of shot, Rog.

Mrs Rine has good taste in dogs. And in men, of course...

  3. I had recognised you before you told us, Z. Haven't changed a bit. Unlike me, apparently.

Rog beat me to it. And midnight feasts?

  5. It's the happy smile, Dave. I'd recognise me almost anywhere.

Actually, Pearson and I had a tradition of a clandestine feast on his last day with us each year. No one but the two of us ever knew about it until now. Well, unless he told anyone, that is.

  6. what a wonderful set of photos. . . and the colours are beautiful - those geraniums!!

I used to have shoes like Pearson's when I was little, when my feet grew too big for them my mother used to cut the fronts off (the fronts of the shoes, not the fronts of my feet)

  7. I seem to remember that Wink had to keep a firm grasp of Simon, who didn't want to be there!

Wonderful photo! Your mother is absolutely beautiful-like her daughters. We've tried to take a photo with four dogs and could never get them to all face the camera.

  13. We don't have many family photos and hardly any of my father with us. One with my sister when she was a baby, that's all. So this one is rather precious and I'm glad to have put it on the computer at last.

Credit Martina, Dand -she wrote to remind me!

I thought someone would tell me how I looked like Huckleberry - but it was too much to hope for. He was an unusually beautiful dog.

  17. Thanks for the terrific visual glimpse into your past.

Could it be that your father was the photographer, and therefore few pics of him?
