Because it bit my finger so

1 On Tim's recommendation, I bought Joseph Heller's God Knows. Unable to sleep, I started to read at daybreak.  I've discovered that I have reached the age when I need a decent light to be able to read small print.  After a lifetime of reading in the dimmest conditions, this is a bit depressing.  I shall have a bath later and read there.

2 The phone keeps ringing and it's for the Sage every time, though I'm nearest and have been the one to answer.  I'm really not very fond of the telephone.  The Sage loves it though.  He's just been Skyping a friend in New Zealand and now is on the phone to Sheila in Atlanta, Georgia.  There's a drought in New Zealand.

3 I put the pictures of Ben onto Facebook and Andy was very pleased to see them.  He really misses his dog.

4 Norfolk and Suffolk have had a month's worth of rain in 24 hours, according to the local paper.  And a few inches of snow.  I drove to Norwich today and passed a car upside-down in a (dryish) ditch.  The owner of the sheep just phoned: he rescued them from their huddled position in their shelter, to which the water was rapidly rising.  They'll be fine now, that field will never flood.  Well, the whole village would have to be under water.  Though I'm not entirely sure that is out of the question.  And it's cold - when I left the car park in Norwich today, a Renault Megane that had, like my car, been parked for four or five hours had icicles hanging from its back bumper.

5 The school play this term is Twelfth Night.  It's to be a musical, in modern dress (but Shakespeare's words) and the music is from the early 1980s.  I'm sure it will be splendid and I'll love it.

I had trouble getting the house warm today. The wind whipped up draughts I didn't even we could have, and came down the chimney so hard it blew the flames into the room, which was a bit scary. I thought we needed a bit of rain, but what we got was a little excessive. Ben needs skype.

Freezing here today, not helped by our aged cat flap flapping open the minute I turn my back on it. The cat disapproves.
I'm hating the telephone these days because it either brings me bad news about my Youngest or people cold-calling and/or trying to scam us.

1. I have the same problem with reading light. Recently much improved with the addition of some high-intensity LED reading lamps.

Depressingly, I have to have reading lights now as well.

My kindle is now my best friend, it makes the text bigger at the end of the day when my eyes are most tired.

*sigh*

1. I am currently trying to read Sir Bruin’s copy of “Making Money” by Terry Pratchett. After 10 months of reading a kindle with the text enlarged, I’m finding that I have to hold the book rather closer to my face than I would like in order to read it.
2. I’m not a huge fan of the phone either and never have been. I like it better now that I can screen out the nuisance calls though.
3. If your friend becomes well enough to have his dog back, I think you will miss him just as much.
4. Look East were reporting live from a flooded village in Norfolk yesterday lunch time. I feel so sorry for all the people who are flooded. We haven’t had any rain here since Saturday, but we have had more snow overnight. It is still below freezing here and the wind makes it feel even colder.
5. I like the sound of that version of Twelfth Night. I hope you will review it for us.

1. I, also, need a fair amount of light and am needing longer arms. The Smaller bear is permanently on menu reading duty, as restaurants are not renowned for offering a million candle power of lighting over your table.
2. Bloody phone at work keeps ringing too. I don't mind the odd telesales call at home as I like to play. This annoys the small bear.
3. Don't mind pictures of dogs. Wouldn't want a real one.
4. An hour to get home to Ipswich from Felixstowe last night. Bloody weather.
5. If music be the food of love etc. Twelfth Night or What You Will was enforced upon me for O Level English Lit. Yawn!

I am NOT letting Ben use my computer. There are limits.

Sorry about Youngest, Mig, hope that's ok soon.

It's often the contrast - grey on off-white rather than black print on white paper. The Sage likes dim lighting, but it's ruined my reading habits. I'm thinking of moving into the bungalow when the weather is warmer.

We will miss Ben, but he's not our dog and we don't think of him as such.

The music includes Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, Nina Simone, The Cure, 10cc - don't think I'll yawn, Sir B!

Hmm, Sir Toby Belch and Andrew Aguecheek singing, "The Boys are Back in Town". Maybe it does have possibilities.
