What a difference...

... a couple of days make.

Before.

And, with the addition of some well-rotted (and completely odourless) manure, afterwards.

The stuff on the left, with the exception, of course, of the tomatoes in the big pots, is available for the shop, as are peppers and aubergines on the right. The sweetcorn and several varieties of squashes and pumpkins are going to be planted when I get home.

I meant to take a photo of the veg garden too, with its rows of five sorts of beans, plus herbs, lettuce, spinach, chard and courgettes (and anything I've forgotten about) but I didn't get around to it as Tilly was hoping for her dinner. Well, I went out afterwards to pot up aubergines, but when I finished the Sage was hoping for his dinner, so it still didn't get done.

I'd promised to make a card for everyone with phone numbers on - it had seemed a good idea, at one stage, to put the National society logo on them, and I fiddled round for ages because I'm not very good at this sort of thing, finally got it done and then printed out a sheet - and the blue of the logo was streaky. I tested and cleaned the print head - all the other colours were fine, it was just the blue. So, I thought, it doesn't matter, I'll print it in black and white. it wouldn't. As the ink cartridge was nearing its end, I decided to change it. The new one was no better.

The Sage had his dinner late. I've emailed it to Dilly and she will print it out for me. I've had enough.

A greenhouse...

I wish for one...

Ah well.

That's why I swapped to laser printers. There is no issue with ink suddenly not printing and running through 100s of cartridges worth more than the printer.

We do have a laser printer, which is actually Ro's but which he left behind, but we normally only use it for business and the thought of getting it from the office and setting it up would have been beyond me - I'm knackered!

I had a lovely 24 foot greenhouse at our last house, plus a little one, and I stipulated that nothing less would do here. I've got rather more greenhouses than I can deal with now, although one of them needs major repairs and is out of action.

Can you scan the document and take it to a copy/print shop in town? I just downloaded and printed instructions for the digital camera. 135 pages! Remember the old days when instruction manuals came with the product?

Enjoy your break.

I'd have to print the document to be able to scan it - it's fine on the computer, it's just that I can't get a fair copy.

My last camera does have an instruction book, but I know the next one won't. A4 Sheets of printed instructions are so unwieldy. And 135 pages - why? Must be hard to find what you want.

Thank you, Dave.

Break? Ah, I remember, sometimes ago Scotland was mentioned.
For colour prints I go to a copy and print shop. Normally they can use any kind of data format, I prefer the professional pdf (with all info needed for printing). Good thing is their whole equipment is calibrated and you can correct colour tones. Choose a nice paper and have a test to see how it all looks in real, adjust if needed, and off we go!

Good work, something similar happened here involving some recently under used muscles, enjoying the benefit of the fruits of my endeavour, hope you do too with yours.

It's just small laminated cards I wanted, with the logo and name on one side and some phone numbers on the other. And I'd set it all up and went to print it out at 7 o'clock last evening, too late to take it anywhere. Anyway, emailing it to Dilly was quickest.

I'll be doing a lot of walking in the next few days (except tomorrow when I'll mostly be sitting) but at least it's different muscles. It's been satisfying to get it all done - I couldn't have last year - but my back wouldn't have taken much more.

Is this your plan while you're away - e-mail photos of food for Dilly to print out and hand to the Sage in lieu of meals?

Sweet, lovely Dave, I know that you know well that it's sometimes necessary to interpret my sentences. Free your mind and read what I mean, not what I say.

Having said that, good idea - emailing dinner, that is.

Travel well.

Your greenhouse is much more impressive than mine. Now I have something to aspire to. If only greenhouses would grow if you manure and water them . . . . .

We were very lucky - we bought the aluminium greenhouses, but we were given one of the wooden-framed ones (it needs repair at present so isn't in use) and bought the other one very cheaply from a nurseryman who was retiring. It's old but in good condition.
